Valentine’s Day is another one of these days (next to Halloween) that is not actually a public holiday but I think should be one. I think it’s very important and a lot of fun.

An old saying proclaims that “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” So why not cook or bake up something lovely for our loved ones?

For a lovely twoesome over coffee and cake, these heart-shaped fudge cup cakes make a nice addition!

I used the Chocolate Fudge Cake recipe from Cynthia Barcomi’s first book. I love this recipe and have made it several times before for special occasions, however not in this shape. It’s a lot of work, but it’s so worth it!

To make them, half-fill heart shaped muffin forms and bake. Let them cool a little before taking them out of the mold. Make sure you have even numbers of hearts because you’re going to put two together.

Make the chocolate fudge and join two baked hearts together with fudge between them.

Then put fudge on the top and the sides of the hearts, making sure to keep the shape as much as possible.

Tip: Make sure to let the cakes cool completely before you start to put on the frosting. Otherwise the frosting will melt and be hard to put on evenly.

Let cool and solidify for a few hours. Then melt white chocolate and fill into a piping bag. Use this to write your individual message on the cakes or draw hearts or whatever fits…

Sugar sprinkles, espeically if you have heart-shaped ones, add a nice touch of color. And tah-dah!

These are awesome for Valentine’s Day or anniversaries, but also as a present for your loved ones at basically any occasion to show some love. 🙂
