Halloween Daily Activities 2018

After an extremely hot summer, autumn just arrived with a vengeance, just in time for the beginning of October. Time to get out those witch costumes and ghoulish decoration!

Halloween is nigh!

I’m so excited that Halloween is now officially a public holiday where I live. Well, of course not because of Halloween, but so what? The glorious result is the same for me. 😉

For 31 days of Halloween fun, I’ve collected 40 ideas of things to do until the big day, some shorter activities for busy days, some quicker crafts or activities that take a few hours to do or make, and some more time-consuming activities for days off:

Halloween Doodle Challenge 2017

It’s that time of the year again. 🙂 The days are getting shorter, the temperatures lower. And Halloween is almost here.

For me, Halloween is always something to look forward to. Even better, it is a public holiday in Germany this year! Well, not because of Halloween, of course, but because of 500 years of reformation, but one does take what one gets, right?

To make the waiting time more fun, and since I liked it so much the last time round, I’ve updated last year’s Halloween doodle challenge with some new prompts.

You can download the grid for priting

Have fun! And a spooky Halloween season to all of you…

Happy Anniversary, Year 4

It’s official: Creativity Rulez is turning 4 today! I’m always amazed when I think about how long I have actually been doing this.

For me, to keep at one and the same project for such a long time is pretty amazing—given that I am what I have termed a Jack of All Trades. I’ve recently heard somebody refer to this very thing with the beautifully anglicized word “Multipotential”; I don’t know how I think about this word, but it feels good to know that I’m not alone… 🙂

Anyway, it’s high time for a look at the last blogging year to see what has happened.

My Creative Month – October/November/December 2016

I have a lot of catching up to do. Sadly, for various reasons, my blog came really short in 2016 and early 2017. It is part of my New Year’s Resolution to change that. So first of all I would like to catch up with all the things I had planned to post about after mid-October but didn’t get around to.

October

October was by far the busiest month—and the one where I did the most in the entire year. It is always a particularly busy month since there is both Halloween and the beginning of a new semester coming up at the end of it.

A lot of things came short last year. Luckily, Halloween (for a change) wasn’t one of them. There were a lot more things that I wanted to do for Halloween, but at the end, I’m pretty happy about what I did get done:

A New Creative Year 2017

Looking back at the past year, I really don’t know what to think. I wouldn’t exactly say that it was a bad year for some good things did happen, but all in all it left a sour taste. I was ill several times, and there were quite a few things beyond my control that required too much attention.

Of course, as usual, there have been ups and downs. For a change, there has been no lengthy period of time where I couldn’t be creative at all, which was a good thing. On the other hand, a lot of things that I usually do more of came decidedly short this year and not even half of what I had planned got done—at least it feels like it. Continue reading

Halloween Recipe: Skeleton Brownies

I love Halloween not least because it is a time for adorably scary food ideas. I wanted to re-use my skeleton mold that I used for my Chocolate Cream Cemetery two years ago, when this idea came along. They are really quick and easy to make and a lot of fun! And, last but not least, really tasty…

Halloween Decoration: Sleeping Ghost Pillow

This year I discovered another Halloween craft idea: Halloween pillows. I think they make awesome decoration, not just for Halloween.

I had a lot of ideas, looked at a lot of pictures on the web what great pillows others were making, but the first idea that made it into reality was the sleeping ghost pillow.

For many, many years, I’ve been in love with this adorable Door keeper Ghost pattern I found on a website called kidsaction.de. A paper cut-out of this pattern had adorned my doors on Halloween (and beyond) for a long time, until I now moved into a flat that does not have prominent enough door cases to rest it on.

So I thought: Why not turn this into a pillow? Continue reading

Halloween Doodle Challenge

Participating in Jennifer’s awesome August Doodle Challenge and 30-Day Doodle Challenge (from her YouTube channel Sea Lemon) during the past two months inspired me to create a doodle challenge of my own. Those who have been reading my blog for a while know how much I love Halloween. So when I started feeling that I wanted to continue doodling in October, I wanted to be doodling Halloween motifs all month long. Continue reading

My Creative Month – August/September 2016

I know I keep saying this about my months, but August and September have been extremely stressful again, both at work and in my personal life. Especially September. August was a little more quiet at first but got stressful toward the end.

I hate how little time I have for the things I would really like to do, especially how little energy I have left after a long day of work or doing my chores.

On top of everything, I’m still busy preparing my courses. I’m teaching an introduction to psychology this semester and the research for that is really extensive. I’ll think twice next time before I take on something so research intensive as this one. I already started preparing in July, right after the previous semester finished. I still have so much left to do with only one month to go. I’m really starting to panic a little.

Still, I did get to a couple of things… Continue reading

Back To School: DIY Pencil Cases

My first idea for this year’s Back to School DIY were bookmarks, but something drew me to making pencil cases instead. Browsing my local craft store gave me the inspiration I needed:

I created two pencil cases, made out of felt. I didn’t have any instructions, I just spontaneously made them at a whim. Continue reading
